The construction of “Riverhaus” started in May of 2020. The custom design is based on multiple homes previously designed and built by the owners whose goal it was to create the perfect modern family home. Located in Bracebridge on the shores of the Muskoka River, this home is one of a kind.

The exterior wood siding is treated using a Japanese wood burning technic called Shou Sugi Ban. In this process over 3,500 linear feet of wood was hand torched, scraped, washed, spar varnished and then torched again. This preserves the wood for decades without the need for new treatment.

Corten steel was used as an accent to divide the rust coloured wood, the black standing seam metal roof and the metal siding of the bedroom wing. Red Western Cedar is also as a warm accent on the modern black metal on the master bedroom balcony. 42 soffit pot lights illuminate the exterior roof line.

The open concept great room features cathedral ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and a sunken living room with Belgian woodstove. The floors are a mix of Hickory and polished concrete with a stunning colourful aggregate exposed creating depth and texture throughout.

Matte black cabinetry accents marble counters and a large island in the kitchen. A 48” Sub Zero fridge and 36” Wolf gas range/oven are a cooks dream. The best feature may be the 4x8ft window over the main sink which fully opens to the screened in Muskoka Room.

The house is wired with smart switches, multiple internet zones, fibre optic internet and a Sonos sound system. Each room has its own air conditioning with smart thermostats. Even the exterior pot lights are Smartphone operated. The hydronic heated floors produce an even warmth and the wood stove in the living room can be used as a secondary heat source.

The house features multiple living areas both inside and out. The kitchen opens to the Muskoka room and an outdoor patio. The basement recreation room leads to the outdoor fire pit, and the upstairs family room has a private loft space.

The main floor master bedroom features an unobstructed view of the forest with a private balcony, 5pc bath and walk-in closet. The ensuite is a work of art with a deep soaker tub, 4x4 Italian porcelain floor and wall tiles, walk-in closet and glass shower.

The three and a half storey glass railing with Hickory staircase and black accents is the central feature of the home, tying all the living spaces together.

The second floor family room is a great hangout spot with abundant natural light, a private reading loft and a super cool net lounging area.

There are two bedrooms on the second floor. The front room has a secret play place and access to the reading loft. The back room has exceptional views out over the treetops and beyond.

The second floor bathroom is filled with light and Italian porcelain tile, a deep soaker tub and glass shower.

The lower level is a separate space for guests and the family to stretch out and relax. The recreation room has a projector television and wet bar. with a walk out to the backyard fire pit and hot tub. On this level you will also find a fourth bedroom, sauna and 3pc bath.

The waterfront area along the Muskoka River is a quick walk or ride over a private bridge and through the trees to a secluded flat lawn area with a floating dock. From here you can enjoy swimming or boating both up and down river.
